Bike luggage rack design and development.

Image
Hello people, this is Ruturaj Lonkar (B.E. Mechanical). Recently I have designed and manufactured a luggage carrying rack for my bike. Below is a overview of the design and manufacturing process. I did a market survey for the available racks and their load carrying capacity. The cheapest one had load carrying capacity of 10 Kg and costed around Rs.1500. The cost was too high for the product and what's the fun in directly buying. So, I decided to design and manufacture my own rack. Design: So the need for the design was to carry luggage on my bike for long rides, also to carry luggage when shopping solo. The mounting point was a constraint for me, so was the bolt size, due to the tapping present in the chassis. So I made a rough sketch of the packaging and made the corresponding FBD and BMD for the rack. And iterated the max load that the bolts can take. It came out that I can make the rack with max.30 Kg load carrying capacity with current holes and packaging setup. It was hard ...

Second review of yezdi scrambler. (8OOO+ Km experience)

Endurance? Hello people, this is Ruturaj Lonkar (B.E. Mechanical). So, I have completed 8000+ km on my Yezdi Scrambler and here is my update on the previous review. Riding in city: I will say it straight up that it is not the most fun bike to ride in bumper to bumper traffic especially when it heats up (which is as soon as you start the bike XD). When in traffic the first gear is too low so in turn the engine over revs, and second gear is to high so the engine under revs and the engine would stall. So you have to continuously manage it with your clutch. The clutch is quite stiff, its like a workout. Crusing in city : When you try to cruise in the range of 20-30 kmph the engine rpm isn't constant. It slightly decreases and increases even though you don't give any throttle input. And this is quite noticeable and discomforting. I have tried to raise this issue at the service station but they are ignorant about it. I think they do not comprehend it. Out on highways/empty streets ...
